Cartridge World Botany Downs Customer Wins 2004 National Prize Draw
A quick trip to Cartridge World Botany Downs for a printer cartridge has turned into a tremendous win for local girl Ramya Balachandran and her family.
Ramya is the national prizewinner of the Cartridge World "refill and Win!" Competition, and has taken home a Canon EOS 300D SLR digital camera, a Canon i905d printer, and 5 packs of photo paper - worth more than $3000!
Twelve-year old Ramya, who lives only minutes from Cartridge World Botany Downs, rushed down for a quick printer cartridge refill so she could print out her school assignment. While waiting for her cartridge to be refilled, Ramya entered the competition to win the fantastic digital photography package. Being a national competition, she never thought that she would win it.
She's so in awe of her prize, especially the capabilities of the printer and the colours it can print out, that she can't wait to do more assignments! Her father is equally excited about the digital camera which is certainly one of the best on the market. "My wife has been asking me to get a digital camera to take photos of Ramya when she does her Indian dancing, so this prize is wonderful!"
Ramya, who attends Somerville Intermediate School, is a top Auckland Speech and Drama competitor, so she's also looking forward to printing out her speeches on her new printer.
Cartridge World Botany Downs Managers, Paul and Jan Wilkinson, are delighted that local people are being rewarded for their commitment to refilling cartridges. "Research undertaken last year indicates that if each household in our Botany Downs area with a printer dumps 2 printer cartridges a year, then we'll have more than 17,500 cartridges in our landfill that could have been recycled. These research estimates are conservative and only refer to local households, not businesses, so environmentally this is a big deal," says Paul. "We're very pleased to see young people like Ramya, and her family, taking recycling seriously and being rewarded with both the environmental benefits and the significant cost savings of refilling their cartridges," adds Jan.
